Sri M - A short biography of our founder

Satsang Vidyalaya is an initiative of the Satsang Foundation. The Satsang Foundation, founded by Sri M, is a meeting point for spiritual seekers of all persuasions. It also extends a helping hand to the less privileged of the society.

Sri M, the founder of Satsang Foundation and Satsang Vidyalaya, was born on November 6, 1948 in Trivandrum in the state of Kerala into a moderate and forward thinking Muslim family with the name Mumtaz Ali Khan. His early years were marked by innocent run-ins with god absorbed holy men and his grandmother regaled him with stories of Sufi saints and mystics during bedtime.

The first turning point was when Sri M was visited by a yogi (loosely defined as a master practitioner of yoga and meditation) at the princely age of nine. It was only much later that he came to find out that this yogi was his Master Maheshwarnath Babaji who visited him from the distant Himalayas to ignite his inner transformation – and continues to do so even today.

He spent the next decade of his formative years studying various spiritual texts – all of which found their way to his hands almost surreptitiously. The Himalayas were but a distant dream, but the vistas of these majestic snow-capped mountains would prove to be much too magnetic for the boy.

And so, at the age of nineteen – he did what every boy his age longed to do. Run away from home! His journey took him across the length of the country – all the way from erstwhile Madras (now called Chennai) to Delhi by rail, then Haridwar, Rishikesh, and then onwards to Badrinath – all by foot! Overcoming various difficulties both of the body and the mind, he was magnanimously rewarded when he was reunited with the mysterious yogi who met Sri M when he was nine. And for the next three and a half years, they travelled together across the length and breath of the Himalayas, every day and night proving to be worthy lessons in life.

After this period of travel, he was asked to go back down to the plains, and begin his life for a forthcoming mission. This included the start of the Satsang Foundation through which he offered his life’s teachings to one and all for free with the only goal of improving the life of each person who came in direct touch with him.

Sri M continues to lead a simple life, living in a small town called Madanapalle about 3 hours away from Bangalore. He is married with two children. He is an avid writer and a collection of his books can be found online and at all leading book stores.
